Pakistan is grappling with thousands of counterfeit videos online and a wave of fraudulent phone calls and one-time password (OTP) messages, PTA Chairman Major General Hafeez Ur Rehman told reporters on Thursday.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of Cybersecurity Awareness Week, he noted that cyberattacks occur continuously and cautioned that the telecommunications industry also faces digital threats.
The chairman observed that citizens often receive dubious calls and messages, and urged people not to share unverified content that could spread misinformation or lead to fraud.
He added that the Federal Investigation Agency is handling such incidents and pointed to collaborative efforts by agencies such as PTA, NADRA and PEMRA to fortify their systems against attacks.
According to him, boosting public awareness and tightening policies are crucial steps to safeguard Pakistan's digital infrastructure.
He concluded that as digital services grow, cybersecurity concerns are increasingly affecting individuals, businesses and government bodies.
