Trainer Willie Mullins arrived at the Breeders Cup dealing with a sore hip and a slight limp after landing at the venue. Despite this, he remained in good spirits to discuss the prospects of his defending champion, Ethical Diamond, in the Turf.

While Mullins did not outright tell bettors to back the HOS Syndicate-owned runner, he showed definite quiet confidence.

The Closutton trainer, who recently confirmed the retirement of Cheltenham Festival legend State Man, stated, "He looks absolutely fantastic, he's a more mature horse and easier ride this year and he's got a good draw."

He added, "This race has been the aim."

Ethical Diamond secured a surprise 28-1 victory last year and earned a cheque for £2million. His only win in three starts this year came in a Group 3 at Leopardstown in August.

Dylan Browne McMonagle returns to ride the former County Hurdle fourth, who previously defeated 11-5 Rebel's Romance.

Ethical Diamond prefers the ground to be as fast as possible for the opening day of the world championships.

However, turf conditions for Friday and Saturday remain uncertain.

Local trainer Wesley Ward noted that the Keeneland track was a quagmire a few weeks ago before a long dry spell.

William Buick tested a fresh, untouched strip of ground during a workout this week and described it as a bit patchy.

Conditions could range from Good to Soft to Good to Firm, so punters should verify the status before placing bets.
