Teenager Archie Self is quickly making a name for himself in the sport of darts, recently breaking a television record previously held by Luke Littler. The young athlete made a massive impact by throwing a perfect opening leg during his MODUS Super Series Champions Group A match in Portsmouth, cementing his status as a rising talent.
Before this achievement, Self had previously faced Littler in a PDC Players Championship fixture, which ended in a defeat. Observers now draw comparisons between the two players as Self gains rapid attention in the sport.
Who is Archie Self?
Competing under the nickname The Archer, Self originates from Thatcham in West Berkshire. He first picked up darts at the age of two and forms part of a new generation of players entering the professional scene.
Self claimed the 2024 WDF World Boys Championship at age 15, which led to a challenging debut draw against Littler at the Players Championship. His initial PDC ProTour win arrived in September when he defeated Pero Ljubic while averaging over 98. After qualifying through the ADC UK pathway, he made his MODUS Super Series debut in November 2025 on his 16th birthday.
What Luke Littler record did he break?
At 16 years and 345 days old, Self set a new benchmark as the youngest person to successfully hit a nine-darter live on British television. He surpassed the previous milestone set by Luke Littler, who achieved the feat at 16 years and 363 days old against Nathan Aspinall at the Bahrain Darts Masters.
The historic leg took place during the opening frame of his encounter against 38-year-old Daniel Ayres. Self opened with seven straight treble 20s before finishing with a treble 19 and a double 12 to complete the feat. He ultimately won the fixture 4-1, securing first place in Group A and advancing to Champions Night.
