Bungie released an October Community Update post outlining the future of the looter-shooter franchise. After canceling the planned Shattered Cycle expansion earlier this year, developers intended to stop game support after the Monument of Triumph update in June. Due to relentless player demands, including fans flooding a Sony State of Play chat with Destiny 3 requests, Bungie announced a franchise revival in September. Now, Bungie has unveiled the Destiny 2 unvaulting timeline.
Destiny 2 Unvaulting Timeline And Future Events
Bungie representative Josh Dean clarified the upcoming schedule, noting that the development team is prepping the massive unvaulting process in pre-production. Full production will begin in February 2027. The project will restore campaigns, DLC stories, locations, and Raids, while the Menagerie activity will return with reprised rewards. The complete unvaulting release might take 12 months and slide into 2028. Bungie will launch a new progress bar in February to track these development goals.
The studio teased a Destiny 2 Celebration event to honor the game past the Monument of Triumph update. Specific details remain unclear, but the celebration points toward new in-game activities or gear farming opportunities. The October post also announced a mysterious Destiny Legacy update, emphasizing the decade-old epic journey where players game today.
Fans suspect an official Destiny 1 remaster and a dedicated PC port. Josh Dean previously teased this on Twitter. Dean and Studio Head Poria Torkan want to retell the complete franchise story before exploring spin-offs or sequels.
Studio Growth And New Rumors
Community support changed the developer trajectory, and Bungie is hiring new talent for Destiny 2 again. Meanwhile, industry rumors suggest Bungie might develop Star Wars Battlefront 3 for Disney or is holding active talks about the sci-fi property.
