During a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, 29 October 2026, the school celebrated its collection of about 12,110 used beverage cartons and the unveiling of the awarded furniture. Hammad Naqi Khan, Director General of WWF-Pakistan, stated, \u201cWhen young people are given the opportunity to act, they turn awareness into responsibility. The students of Crescent Model Girls High School have shown that meaningful environmental action can begin in the classroom.\u201d

Mian Altaf Saleem, Managing Trustee of the Crescent Education Trust, expressed gratitude to WWF-Pakistan and Tetra Pak Pakistan for their backing and praised the pupils and staff for their dedication to the program.

The campaign, active since 2017 with backing from Tetra Pak Pakistan, featured 79 educational workshops across Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Wah Cantt, and Khanpur (Rahim Yar Khan). Participating schools also joined a used beverage carton collection contest, motivating pupils to apply their knowledge by gathering and recycling discarded packaging, with 47 institutions taking part.

Crescent Model Girls High School in Lahore secured the Central Region title by gathering 173 kg of used beverage cartons, which equals roughly 12,110 packages. As a reward for these efforts, the campus received furniture manufactured from recycled cartons gathered via the campaign.

Managed by the Environmental Education Department of WWF-Pakistan, the Recycling Awareness Project contributes to wider initiatives aimed at embedding ecological education and sustainable waste management into the educational framework of Pakistan. By pairing educational talks with hands-on tasks, the campaign motivates students to participate in waste reduction and recycling initiatives within their schools and neighborhoods. Consumption rates are rising unsustainably, and World Bank projections indicate global waste will expand by 73% by 2050, highlighting the pressing need for a circular economy.
