Naples Capodichino Airport, ranking as one of Italy's busiest aviation hubs following Rome and Milan and serving numerous budget carriers including Wizz Air, easyJet and Ryanair, shuts down entirely tomorrow on November 1. Every flight is cancelled for the entire month for a massive €30 million runway refurbishment, which forms part of a broader €250 million investment project.
Annual traffic currently reaches roughly 13 million travelers, and officials target a rise to 17.3 million by the year 2035. Management explained on their official site, "Naples Airport will be closed in November 2026 for extensive and planned runway upgrades, in compliance with stringent industry regulations and in line with GESAC's priority commitment to ensuring the highest safety standards." November was chosen for the temporary shutdown because it represents the slowest period for the facility.
Budget carriers run regular routes to the location, as easyJet connects London Gatwick while Ryanair flies out of Edinburgh, London Stansted and Manchester. Travelers bound for Naples must reroute to Salerno-Pontecagnano Airport instead. GESAC arranges a shuttle bus service from the alternative terminal priced at €12, while railway tickets between Salerno and Naples Central provide a cheaper alternative at £5 for a single journey. Normal operations resume when the airfield reopens by November 30.
