Nigel Farage intends to eliminate the Army Reserve title and reinstate the traditional Territorial Army designation because he considers it distinctly British. Back in 2014, the Conservative administration altered the original title as part of their modernization strategy.
Reform UK argued that the current term is generic and shared by multiple armed forces worldwide. A representative stated that no proof exists showing the title alteration improved enlistment numbers.
The representative added, "What it did do was disregard a name that had stood since 1908 and which clearly communicated its purpose." They also noted, "The name Territorial Army is distinctly British. It communicates our heritage, which soldiers sign up to defend."
Individuals who join the Army Reservists give their time to serve beside regular troops, maintaining a yearly training requirement of 19 or 27 days. This announcement arrives as Reform gets ready to introduce their initial Defence spokesman on Thursday, who is expected to be a former military member.
