The Federal Government has moved to a daily adjustment system for petrol and diesel prices. Effective July 17, 2026, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) will revise ex-depot rates for these fuels every 24 hours, a step taken to protect the local economy from sharp market swings.

New figures show a mixed impact on buyers. OGRA lowered the price of Motor Spirit (MS), commonly called petrol, while the price of High Speed Diesel (HSD) rose again.

ProductPrevious Price(28/10/2026)Revised Price(29/10/2026)Difference
Motor Spirit (MS)Rs. 376.06Rs. 377.91+1.85
High Speed Diesel (HSD)Rs. 398.07Rs. 399.82+1.75

These daily adjustments will remain unchanged during weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) and public holidays.

The shift comes as the world faces its biggest energy-supply disruption since the 1970s. The 2026 US-Israel war on Iran sparked a severe global fuel crisis. In late February, Iran blocked traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a chokepoint that handled about 25% of global seaborne oil trade. The United States responded with a naval blockade of Iranian ports.

A brief ceasefire in June raised hopes, but the truce fell apart on July 8 after renewed attacks on commercial vessels. Iran closed the strait again, and the US launched successive airstrikes to reopen it. Ongoing crossfires and blockades continue to choke oil shipments, forcing OGRA to manage the situation with daily pump-price adjustments.
