Starting July 17, 2026, the federal administration has moved to a system where the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) will alter the ex-depot rates for petrol and diesel each day. The step is intended to protect the domestic economy from sharp market swings.

Under the latest update, consumers see a split outcome. The rate for Motor Spirit (MS), commonly called petrol, stays the same, while High Speed Diesel (HSD) experiences a modest rise.

ProductPrevious Price(29/10/2026)Revised Price(30/10/2026)Difference
Motor Spirit (MS)Rs. 377.91Rs. 377.91-0.00
High Speed Diesel (HSD)Rs. 399.82Rs. 400.67+0.85

These daily adjustments will remain unchanged during weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) and public holidays.

The shift follows what officials describe as the biggest disturbance to world energy supplies since the 1970s. A 2026 US-Israel conflict with Iran sparked a severe global fuel shortage. In late February, Iran halted vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a passage that handled roughly 25% of global seaborne oil. The United States responded with a broad naval blockade of Iranian ports.

A short-lived ceasefire in June raised hopes, but the truce fell apart on July 8 after renewed attacks on merchant ships. Iran shut the strait again, prompting the US military to conduct successive airstrikes to reopen it. Ongoing skirmishes and blockades continue to choke oil shipments worldwide, forcing OGRA to manage the crisis through daily pump-price tweaks.
