State Bank of Pakistan Governor Jameel Ahmad announced that the national current account deficit should stay within 0% and 1% of gross domestic product, citing strengthening external stability and economic fundamentals.

Speaking at the annual convocation of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan, Ahmad reported that the domestic economy advanced notably since 2022 despite severe regional and global hurdles. Real gross domestic product expansion rebounded from a contraction during fiscal year 2023 to reach 3.7% in FY26, and additional gains are anticipated for the ongoing fiscal year.

Inflation stayed near the target bracket of the central bank throughout FY26, according to the governor. Even though price pressures climbed later, inflation should moderate progressively with the backing of careful monetary management. He mentioned that prompt policy choices, fiscal restraint, and empirical actions successfully rebuilt macroeconomic stability while bringing inflation down from over 30% into the medium-term target band.

Ahmad pointed out better financial sector results, risk-based supervision, and economic strength, mentioning that global credit rating agencies, foreign investors, and multilateral partners acknowledge the country's advancement. He encouraged newly graduated finance experts and accountants to focus on sustainable economic growth, professional ethics, and empirical choices.
