Project Includes Battery Storage System
The 100MW solar initiative features a Battery Energy Storage System engineered to boost power grid stability. The undertaking seeks to enhance electricity access across Gilgit-Baltistan and satisfy local power demands using solar generation and storage technology. Authorities first proposed the 100MW solar scheme for Gilgit-Baltistan during early 2025 as a federal plan backed by the Public Sector Development Programme and the prime minister special package, responding to ongoing power deficits in the territory. Regional authorities engaged NESPAK to perform the feasibility assessment, and the Central Development Working Party cleared the plan prior to ECNEC granting formal approval during August 2025 with a projected price tag of Rs24.957 billion and a three-year construction period.
