A new timelapse video illustrates how Inter and AC Milan plan to construct their modern stadium adjacent to the San Siro before the historic ground is torn down. Officials confirmed that the venue will be replaced by a 71,500-seater ground, with both clubs aiming to occupy their shared home in 2031.
Swiss bank Generali has secured the naming rights through a 20-year agreement valued at around £540million. Distributed by StadiumDB, the visual animation demonstrates the construction of the Generali Stadium alongside the simultaneous demolition of the San Siro. Total expenditure for the build is projected to reach approximately £1bn.
Architectural practice Foster + Partners, headed by Lord Norman Foster, drafted the design for the new arena. The firm previously handled Wembley Stadium and Qatar's Lusail Stadium, alongside drafting proposals for Manchester United's new home. Sir Jim Ratcliffe stated last year: "Norman Foster, who also is a Mancunian, and is the world's greatest architect in my view, has really has created the most iconic, well you've seen it, the most iconic stadium. Absolutely incredible."
Both Serie A clubs intend for their new venue to function as a year-round entertainment space. The Generali Stadium might host concerts and NFL fixtures, similar to London's Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Describing the wider 281,000-square-meter urban regeneration initiative, a joint statement from the teams explained: "At the centre of a wider 281,000-square-meter urban regeneration project, the development will transform the surrounding area into a vibrant district that is active throughout the year, integrating new public spaces, green areas, leisure and retail destinations into the fabric of the city."
The statement added: "Designed to welcome residents, visitors and fans from around the world, the district will offer opportunities to experience the Clubs, their heritage and their communities beyond matchdays, creating new places to gather, connect and celebrate. The ambition extends far beyond football. The project will create a year-round destination for sport, culture and entertainment while contributing to the attractiveness and international appeal of Milano."
