HMD introduced the 2660 Flip Senior Edition in the United Kingdom, a traditional keypad handset equipped with an AI companion aimed at senior users.
This model upgrades the existing HMD 2660 Flip and includes an assistant called Mary that can converse, retain past dialogue and act as a companion.
The AI was created together with inTouch, a firm that provides AI-driven calling services for the elderly.
Design and Display
The Senior Edition sports a 2.8-inch QVGA main screen and a 1.77-inch QQVGA external display.
It runs on a Unisoc T107 chip, offers 64 MB of RAM, 128 MB of internal storage, operates on the S30+ system and carries a 0.3 MP rear camera.
Dimensions are 198.9 × 55 × 19 mm and the weight is 136.4 g.
Additional features include Bluetooth 5.0, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, FM radio, MP3 playback, dual microphones, a single speaker and a Nano SIM slot.
The removable 1,450 mAh battery is claimed to deliver up to 8.1 hours of talk time.
AI Companion Mary
Mary, the AI companion, is the flagship feature for seniors, designed to speak naturally.
Users can launch Mary from the main menu by pressing the call button, without needing an app or separate number.
Once started, the assistant stays active 24 hours a day.
Mary uses simple wording, a slow pace and allows longer pauses, also remembering previous conversation details.
It can discuss history, nature, stories, play memory games or just chat.
Activation involves scanning a QR code in the box or visiting a setup webpage.
Price and Availability
The phone is on sale in the UK for £79.99 (about $107).
The purchase includes five hours of free talks with Mary; thereafter, users are charged £16.90 per month (about $23) for continued AI use.
