Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif instructed officials on Wednesday to correct deficiencies in government schools across Islamabad within seven days. During a meeting focused on educational reforms, he demanded fast improvements to student welfare, teaching quality, and facilities following a survey that exposed shortcomings in certain institutions.

Planning and Development Minister Ahsan Iqbal received orders from the prime minister to supervise the cleanup operation and ensure the target is met. The session evaluated infrastructure, study programs, and other elements concerning public education in the capital.

The assessment, ordered by the prime minister back in September, revealed that most state schools possessed computer labs, safe drinking water, and internet connectivity. Yet, a briefing during the conference noted that certain campuses still struggled with building and facility defects.

Sharif demanded swift measures to correct these gaps, which include adding ramps for students with physical disabilities, upgrading medical care, and putting in smart boards. He additionally instructed workers to launch a complimentary lunch initiative aimed at boosting pupil nutrition.

The leader of the government also demanded a larger fleet for the public school transit system, telling staff to investigate third-party validation and outsourcing options for buses. Staff members reported during the gathering that 278 official buses currently run throughout Islamabad.

Staffing and administration form another focus of the planned updates. Sharif mandated that hiring educators must rely strictly on merit, and teachers should stay away from non-teaching tasks. Furthermore, he demanded better educator instruction, curriculum updates, and increased power for head teachers.

The Federal Directorate of Education, which manages federal public schools in the capital, received orders to build a plan that improves agency efficiency. Sharif additionally urged the wider adoption of solar power within educational facilities.

Federal ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Musadik Masood Malik, Attaullah Tarar, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, State Minister for Finance Bilal Kiani, and other senior officials participated in the discussions.
