Islamabad Traffic Police Launches Same-Day Driving License Service
The Islamabad Traffic Police has officially introduced a new same-day driving license service for citizens. Under this updated procedure, applicants can now receive their driving licenses on the same day they successfully pass their sign and road tests, provided they have completed all necessary licensing requirements.
Chief Traffic Officer Kainat Azhar Khan stated that the department launched this initiative following direct instructions from the Islamabad Inspector General of Police. This administrative shift aims to modernize local traffic administration and eliminate bureaucratic hurdles that previously delayed permit issuance for weeks.
How the Delivery Timeline Works for Residents and Out-of-Towners
While same-day issuance is now available for those who complete their tests and paperwork promptly, delivery schedules vary depending on the applicant's location. Applicants in Islamabad and Rawalpindi who do not receive their physical cards on the spot can expect next-day delivery straight to their addresses.
For applicants residing outside the twin cities, the process takes slightly longer due to postal transit times. Delivery to addresses outside the twin cities will take two to three days. A separate police spokesperson statement specified one-day delivery for Islamabad residents and two-day delivery for applicants from other cities.
Why the Department Changed the Licensing Process
Chief Traffic Officer Khan explained that citizens would no longer need to make repeated trips to licensing offices to collect their driving licenses. Traditional issuance procedures often required multiple visits over several weeks just to check on the status of a printed card.
Khan added that the department prioritizes convenient services that address the public time constraints and difficulties. By streamlining the workflow between testing grounds and printing facilities, the traffic division aims to remove common frustrations faced by everyday motorists.
Future Modernization Plans for Islamabad Traffic Police
Beyond the immediate rollout of expedited licensing, leadership has signaled ongoing administrative updates. The department intends to roll out additional measures to improve public convenience and promote modern policing standards across the capital territory.
According to departmental representatives, the agency will continue upgrading its services in upcoming phases. These future enhancements are designed to keep pace with growing urban populations and increasing demand for official documentation.
What Applicants Need to Know Before Visiting
Citizens planning to visit the licensing centers should ensure they are fully prepared for both the theoretical sign examination and the practical road test. Passing both evaluations on the first attempt is critical for securing the expedited same-day or next-day printing slots.
Fulfilling all documentation prerequisites prior to arrival will prevent processing delays. Residents can complete their test sessions knowing that administrative bottlenecks are actively being dismantled by local law enforcement leadership.
