Neela Gumbad Parking Plaza Reaches 90% Completion

The Neela Gumbad underground parking plaza in Lahore has reached 90% completion, bringing the facility closer to opening for motorists. This infrastructure project aims to address the severe shortage of parking spaces in one of the busiest commercial zones of the city.

Urban planners and local authorities have prioritized the development to streamline traffic flow and reduce congestion around historical and commercial districts. Motorists and local business owners have long faced severe parking challenges in the area, making the progress a notable milestone for daily commuters.

LDA Director General Tahir Farooq Inspects Construction Progress

Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Director General Tahir Farooq inspected the project on Sunday and reviewed construction progress. During his site visit, he evaluated the quality of ongoing work and interacted with site engineers to ensure adherence to timelines.

Officials informed him that workers had completed around 90% of the project and were rapidly finishing work across all three basement levels. Farooq also inspected the seating area on the upper section of the plaza and reviewed samples of lighting fixtures and tiles. The inspection covered structural integrity checks, safety installations, and aesthetic elements designed to integrate the plaza into the surrounding urban environment.

Remaining Construction Work and Infrastructure Details

He directed the concerned officials to accelerate the remaining work, including asphalt carpeting on the link road connecting Mall Road with Neela Gumbad, installation of the parking management system, painting and flooring.

The multi-level basement design requires complex engineering to ensure proper ventilation, drainage, and security. Technical teams are currently finalizing the installation of automated ticket dispensers, electronic surveillance cameras, and clear directional signage to guide drivers efficiently.

Directives Issued to Contractors and Project Officials

Farooq also instructed the project director and contractor to complete finishing work on all associated structures as soon as possible and submit daily progress reports. Accountability and strict adherence to schedules remain top priorities for the supervisory bodies overseeing the site.

TEPA Chief Engineer Iqrar Hussain and the project director briefed the LDA chief about construction progress and the remaining components of the project. Clear instructions were given to resolve any supply chain bottlenecks or labor shortages immediately to prevent delays in the final commissioning phase.

Impact on Lahore Traffic and Local Businesses

The impending opening of the Neela Gumbad parking plaza carries significant practical implications for shoppers, merchants, and daily travelers. Street parking congestion has historically hindered commercial activity and created bottlenecks on vital arteries near Mall Road.

By moving vehicles off the streets and into a dedicated underground facility, city planners expect a measurable improvement in vehicle movement speeds. Local traders anticipate that better parking availability will attract more customers to the commercial hub, boosting regional economic activity.

What Comes Next for the Neela Gumbad Project

As the project enters its final weeks, construction crews will focus entirely on finishing the internal surfaces, testing the parking management technology, and completing the asphalt carpeting on the access roads. Regulatory authorities will conduct safety audits and load-bearing tests before issuing operational clearances.

Citizens and motorists should watch for announcements regarding the official inauguration date and fee structures. Once open, the facility will operate under strict monitoring by the Lahore Development Authority to ensure maintenance standards remain high.
