A centralized online portal named SMEConnect has been introduced by the State Bank of Pakistan to let small and medium enterprises request financing from development finance institutions and banks nationwide.
Accessible at smeconnect.sbp.org.pk, this portal acts as a unified digital window for credit requests. The central bank stated that the system will make borrowing more efficient, transparent, and accessible while simplifying procedures.
Real-Time Tracking and Rejection Reasons
Users can monitor the progress of their loan requests live, and the platform will display specific explanations if a bank turns down a submission.
A live dashboard is built into the system to grant the SBP full oversight of all industry and individual lender financing files. This feature supplies live metrics regarding submitted, evaluated, accepted, funded, and declined files across individual lenders as well as the broader market.
Mandatory From November 1
All business credit submissions must go through SMEConnect starting November 1, 2026. Anyone attempting to submit paperwork through lender websites or physical branch visits will be sent to the portal instead.
Lenders and development finance institutions received instructions from the SBP to feature the portal link prominently on their own web pages. Institutions must also train their field personnel and small business divisions to properly assist users with the system.
How to Apply for Small Business Loan
An instructional video is hosted on the website to guide users through the credit request procedure.
This initiative represents the newest step by the central bank to broaden small business borrowing. Previously, the SBP increased financing ceilings up to Rs. 500 million and published draft rules for small business lending to gather public feedback.
